- instruct how to perform exercises safely and effecitvely (be knowledgeable, certified)
- develop content for exercise classes/training sessions
- monitor adn track progress of exercise programs
- also create and foster a social environment

- promote healthy exercise attitudes
- —emphasize importance of getting adequate rest between workouts an taking time to recover when sick
- —emphasize fitness and fun during exercise classes as opposed to fat and calorie burning
