mechanism of action:

A
  1. dextromethorphan → centrally acting. D-isomer of potent opioid agonist → suppress coughing
  2. codeine & hydrocodone → decrease sensitivity of cough centers in CNS to peripheral stimuli → decrease mucus secretion
  3. lidocaine → locally acting anesthetic
