103 Multi-Level Security (MLS)/Mission Avionics Processing System (MAPS) Flashcards
Discuss chassis' and MAPS software (16 cards)
What is the Purpose of MLS/MAPS?
Provide enhanced message processing and provide the platform service software services needed within the LAN enviroment and to appropriately label classified and unclassifed data.
What Does “MLS” Stand for?
Multi-Level Security.
What Does “MAPS” Stand for?
Mission Avionics Processing System.
What is the MILS Subsystem Comprised of?
- MAPS Chassis
- Growth Chassis
- Workstations
- Printers
- Disk Subsystem
- Ethernet distribution
What Power Does MILS Operate From?
54/48 VDC, 28 VDC, and 115 VAC power.
What is the Purpose of the MAPS Chassis?
Interfaces with other mission avionics; accepting, processing, and providing communications data.
Where is the MAPS Chassis Located?
C4 Cabinet.
How Many Cards are Present Within the MAPS Chassis?
- 22 in total.
- 20 6U (Full Height) cards.
- 2 3U (Half Height) Chassis Management Module cards.
What is a Thin-Client Server and How Many are Present Within the MAPS Chassis?
Interface the Workstations with the MAPS chassis, processor modules and ethernet switches, acting as a server of sorts. 4 thin-clients are present.
What is a Chassis Management Module?
System and component status information is gathered by the CMM and then displayed through the Sysman GUI.
What is the Purpose of the Chassis Enviromental Monitor?
Provides sensors that control the heating and cooling temperature limits.
What Does the CEM do When Power is Applied Below 41 Degrees?
Power is diverted to the heaters until card’s ambient temperature is brought up to 41 degrees, then power is removed from heater and boot up process initiates.
What Does the CEM do When Power is Applied Above 100.4 Degrees?
Power application is inhibited until chassis’ are sufficiently cooled.
What is the Purpose of the Red Apps Database (REDAPPS DB) cards?
The REDAPPS DB card provides access to MAPS application and stores messages in the Message Catalog.
What is the Purpose of a Fabric Switch?
Fabric Switches provide Card-to-Card communication.
What is the Purpose of a Node Switch?
Node Switches provide Chassis-to-Chassis communication, connecting Fabric Switches to external devices.
