Q

As a Registered Nurse, what do you see as your role within the multidisciplinary team

A

As a Registered Nurse my role requires me to be an equal member of both the nursing team and the MDT. In the hospital system each member of the MDT must work together to achieve the common goal of providing quality patient care, that is person centred. (PCF)

In order for this to happen I ensure in my role as an RN I maintain good communication, including verbal, (being mindful of the way I speak), written (documentation and legality) and listening (not interrupting others). I also believe it is important to understand other health care professional’s roles and how we can assist each other.

I ensure that I assist others where possible, to share work the workload, help problem solve and positively support others.

I acknowledge that I must be accountable for my actions, using open disclosure with colleges and patients in accordance to policy. I make sure I document accurate and give handovers using ISBAR.

I always maintain a positive can do attitude and am willing to assist anyone who asks for help.
