6-12 months: understands some words ‘byebye’ and make sounds such as ‘gaga’
18 months: can say between six to ten words and can follow simple instructions

A

2-3 years: links words together and vocabulary increasing to approximately 200 words at 2.5 yrs
3-5 years: can use simple sentences, ask questions and May use incorrect forms of words “I good”
8 years: can use reason and explain and speaks in complex sentences

Criticism of Noam Chomsky

A

Lack of scientific evidence of innate underdog structure of language

Does not take into account that a language acquisition support system is required

The rate of language development is affected by the degree of interactions with others

Chomsky put emphasis on grammar in sentences development rather than meanings
