A

All metal atoms lose electrons to get a full outer energy level. Metals differ in their ability to lose electrons and those that lose electrons most easily are found at the top of the electrochemical series.

A

A

Cells containing non-metals only must have graphite electrodes to conduct the electrons into and out of the solutions. These electrodes do not react.

A

The ion bridge completes the circuit by allowing electricity to flow by the movement of ions. The ion bridge is made up of paper soaked in potassium nitrate. Potassium nitrate is a good solution to use for an ion bridge as it is a soluble ionic compound that does not do side reactions that use up chemicals in the cell.
