11.2 Force Flashcards
(13 cards)
Force definition
is a push or a pull on an object
or to turn an object
Different effects of force
moving objects
- to move faster
- or slower
objects at rest
- to stop
moving objects
- change direction
What can measure force?
Spring balance
Force sensor connected to data-logger (computer for further analysis)
Difference between 2 instruments measuring force?
Spring balance –> pulling forces
Force sensor –> pulling and pushing
What button makes the reading on spring balance to be 0
Zero adjuster
Unit of force is
N – newton
types of force
contact and non-contact forces
floating loudspeaker ?
electromagnets in the loudspeaker and the base exert a force on the other
Why exert only a ‘short gentle push’ on the glider in constant speed demonstration?
There is less friction on air track
The push will spark the object’s motion, moving in one direction
Because there is less friction, no need a continous force.
Balances forces definition
Force acting on an object can be perfectly balanced by another force of the same magnitude in the opposite direction.
When balanced forces act on object at rest
The object will stay at rest
When balanced forces act on a moving object
The object’s speed and direction of motion remains the same (be in uniform motion)
When unbalance forces act on an object
Motion of an object will change
