Energy Flashcards
Name eight forms of Energy.
- Electrical energy
- Light energy
- Sound energy
- Kinetic (movement) energy
- Thermal (heat) energy
- Gravitational potential energy
- Elastic energy
- Chemical energy
Can something have no energy at all?
No
What is the main principal of consevation energy?
Energy can never be created nor destroyed it is only ever converted from one form to another
Electrical energy
Electrical energy is easily converted into other forma-whereever there’s a current flowing, there’s electrical energy
Light energy
Anything luminous gives light energy eg. The Sun, bulb, candle
Sound energy
Anything noisy gives off sound energy eg. Crying baby, guitar, speaker
Kinetic energy
Anything that moves has kinetic energy eg. Bus, car scooter, runner
Thermal energy
Everything has some heat energy. The hotter something is more heat energy it has. Eg. Heater, candel
Gravitational potential energy
Anything that is above the ground has gravitational potential energy
Elastic energy
Anathyng stretched has elastic energy
Chemical energy
Anything with stored energy which can be released by chemical reaction eg. Food, fuel, battery
What happens to energy when system changes?
When system changes energy is transferred
What means work done?
It means energy transferred
Why are all energy transfers not perfect?
Because when energy is convert from one form to another there is always lost in some way, nearly always heat. Eg. Bulb takes 100J energy in gives light 20 J and heat, heat is wasted energy
What is dissipated?
When energy is transferred so that it is stored in less useful ways, eg by heating to the surroundings
