What is clopidogrel?

A

Clopidogrel (75mg tablet) is an antiplatelet medication which inhibits platelet aggregation.

Hepatic metabolism excreted in the urine & faeces.

Indications for clopidogrel?

A
  1. For patients with STEMI (as defined by the relevant QAS CPP) and
    - Who have been accepted for pPCI (as an adjunct medication to aspirin and heparin) and the receiving cardiologist is requesting clopidogrel OR
    - Have received tenecteplase (and have been administered aspirin & enoxaparin)

Contraindications for clopidogrel?

A
  1. Allergy / ADR
  2. Patients contraindicated for pre-hospital fibrinolysis administration
  3. Current clopidogrel OR ticagrelor therapy
  4. Patients less than 18 years of age
  5. Active bleeding
  6. Prior intracranial haemorrhage

What is the dose for clopidogrel?

A

> 18 years

  1. For patients with STEMI (as defined by the relevant QAS CPP) and:

a) who have been accepted for pPCO (as an adjunct medication to aspirin and heparin) and the receiving cardiologist is requesting clopidogrel:
600 mg PO
Swallowed with a small quantity of water

b) have received tenecteplase (and have been administered aspirin & enoxaparin)
300 mg PO
