Climate Change Flashcards

1
Q

How have fossil fuels contributed to climate change?

A

Burning of fossil fuels have led to a significant increase in C02 levels across the globe. This causes an enhanced greenhouse effect, which traps infra-red radiation, causing increased temperatures.

Q

How have volcanic eruptions contributed to climate change?

A

Eruptions can change the Earth’s climate, but they must be very string to have any effect. They emit sulphur dioxide which can reach high into the stratosphere and block the sunlight.

Q

How do the Milankovitch cycles contribute to climate change?

A

Over time the Earth’s climate has changed greatly. This is believed to be because of how the Earth orbits the sun. It can either be more circular or oval (elliptical)

Q

How has agriculture contributed to climate change?

A

The amount of people has increased and so has the people. This increases the methane levels. Methane significantly effects the greenhouse effect.

Q

How has deforestation contributed to climate change?

A

Burning and clearing rainforests emits a lot of CO2 and there are now fewer trees to remove the CO2 from the atmosphere. The excess CO2 stays in the atmosphere.

Q

How have ocean currents contributed to climate change?

A

Ocean currents are responsible for distributing heat around the globe for example El Nino and La Nina.

Q

What does solar activity contribute to climate change?

A

Energy from the sun is not constant and can increase or decrease. Sunspots are dark spots that show how active the sun. Temperatures are higher when they are more sunspots.
