Soc 17: Structure of the Respiratory System Flashcards

1
Q

Why do we need the respiratory system

A

Get oxygen into the body
Remove CO2 from the body
Keep the body supplied with oxygen during physical activity

Q

The diaphragm during inspiration and expiration

A

It changes from a dome shape to a flatter shape when breathing in, then relaxes and goes back to the dome shape when breathing out

Q

What happens during inhaling

A

Air passes through the larynx and then through the trachea into one of the two branches called the bronchi, then air passes into either lung. Small branches called bronchioles extend out from the bronchi and at the end they form millions on tiny sacs called alveoli. In the alveoli oxygen passes into the blood
