What is part of the model of human computer interaction?
brain , sensors , displays , machine state , controls, responders
If a part is missing from the model, can communication still take place?
No
What can human senses do?
Receive physical signals from the enviroment and convert them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain.
What percentage of human information does vision process?
~ 80%
How does vision work?
- light passes through the lens
- the lens focuses the light into an image projected onto the retina
- retins converts visible light into neurological signals
- the center of the retina , fovea , processes the details
What are the properties of vision?
- frequency of visible light = gives colour
- intensity (wavelength)
- fixation (processing detail when still) and saccades (rapid movement of the eyes)
Why do we need to understand vision?
As then it is easier to understand how content is viewed in studies.
What is hearing?
Signals perceived by ears from cyclic fluctuation of pressure
What is pitch?
perception of sound frequency
What is timbre?
Harmonic structure to be described as richness or
brightness
What is envelope?
Changes in the subjective properties over time
When are people best at pinpointing sound source?
When they’re facing it, not so good behind or to the side.
What are the mediums of touch?
- vibration , air , ultrasound
What do we need to consider in studies relating to touch?
temperature (people are good at detecing temperature change, but can’t tell exact level)
potential pain

What is Proprioception?
the ability to sense the position of your body and limbs
