Lecture 2 - Human Performance Flashcards
What is human performance?
When sensors, responders and brain work together to achieve things
What is the speed accuracy tradeoff?
tasks completed faster tend to be more error prone
people tend to prioritise one
What is reaction time?
Speed of action after stimuli.
There are different thresholds for different sensors.
Order of reaction times for sensors?
audio , visual , smell , pain
Do any reactions require cognition?
Yes, complex ones where some decision must be made
Can human performance increase?
Yes with practice in most tasks that are recognition / social
What do we name this practice to increase performance?
Skilled behaviour
What is attention?
Being focused solely on one task
When do we consider that attention is needed.
When a task can’t be completed alongside others.
What is divided attention?
Performing more than one task at a time, typically degrades performance
What is focused attention?
attending one task with the exclusion of others
What is human error?
dicrete event in a task where outcome is incorrect
Do we typically want to measure errors?
Yes, but we also want more complicated things most of the time.
