What is colostrum?

A

• A fluid rich in proteins, vitamin A, and certain electrolytes

• It is produced under the influence of prolactin

• Antibodies synthesized by plasma cells are transferred into colostrum&raquo_space; passive acquired immunity to the breast-fed newborn
