Q

How was cinema affected under the Nazis?

A

Nazi supporters such as Alfred Hugenberg owned film studios, so the Nazis had direct influence on exactly which films were made.

Goebells read and approved all film scripts.

All films had to carry a pro-Nazi message.

News reports of Nazi achievements were always shown before the main film.

How was art affected under the Nazis?

A

The Nazis wanted art to be clearly understandable to ordinary people.

Should show healthy, heroic German figures and family scenes of happy, strong, “pure” Germans.

1936: The Nazis publically burnt 5000 paintings. They put on an exhibition of the “degenerate” art and opened another of officially approved paintings.

A

As the German Olympic squad came top of the medals table, it showed how talented and strong the German race was.
