Laser printer
Uses laser beam to produce high quality text and graphics on paper.
Use a drum electrostatically charged with an image of the document to be printed.
Charged areas of the drum attract toner particles, which are transferred to paper and fused onto it by heat.
Inkjet printer
Uses small droplets of ink to create images on paper.
spray tiny droplets of ink on to paper through a series of nozzles.
Ink stored in small cartridge that is easy to replace when they run out.
Use for printing photographs or high-quality images as they produce more vivid and detailed colours than laser printer.
Dot matrix printer
Uses a print head that moves back and forth across pages and prints by impact, striking on ink soaked cloth ribbon against paper.
Uses column of dot hammers. The more hammer,the higher the resolution.
3 advantages of laser printer
1) faster, allows to print entire pages at once.
2) sharp text with clarity, ideal for small fonts or fine details
3) use toner cartridges, produce many more pages. Cost effective.
3 disadvantages of laser printer
1 more expensive to purchase
2 not good when producing vivid true to life colors
3 internal parts need cleaning or replacement. cause paper jams or errors.
3 advantages of inkjet
sharp, vivid colours, ideal for printing photos, graphics, and documents
less expensive. For home and office
print on wide range of media, such as paper, fabrics, card socks, labels
3 disadvantages of inkjet
Expensive cartridges
Slow printing speed, especially when printing in high-quality
Small nozzles easily clogged with dried ink. Frequent cleaning to keep it working.
