Q

State the conduction process of the sinoatrial nade?

A

Known as the hearts ?pacemaker?.
It is located in wall of right atrium.
The SAN sends an impulse from the RA, through walls of atria.
This causes the atria to contract (atrial systole).
This forces blood down the atria in to ventricles.

Q

State the conduction process of the atrioventricular node?

A

The stimulation to contract produced by the SAN cannot spread to the ventricles due to the walls acting as a physical barrier to conduction.
The Atrioventricular Node helps. It is located between the atria and ventricles. It conducts the impulse between atria and ventricles.
The AVN delays the impulse, to allow the atria to contract before ventricles. This enables the ventricles to receive all the blood from the atrium.

Q

Identify where the Bundle of His is located and a characteristic of it

A

They are located in the septum and separates the ventricles.
The bundle of His branches out into two bundle branches.

Q

Where are the Perkinje Fibres located and what is their function?

A

Located in the walls of the ventricles. They carry the impulse to ventricle walls, causing them to contract (ventricular systole)
The contraction causes blood within ventricles to be pushed up and out of the heart. Either to lungs or working muscles.

Q

The autonomic nervous system is the part of the nervous system that regulates body function such as breathing and your heart beating, and it is involuntary.
This system divides in two. What are these systems?

A

Sympathetic nervous system
Parasympathetic nervous system

Q

Describe the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system

A

Sympathetic:
During exercise, it causes your heart rate to increase (as well as breathing rate).
Parasympathetic:
Returns your heart rate to resting levels.
