structure of arteries

A

tunica intima- folded endothelial (allows arteries to expand when blood pressure increases)
tunica media- lots of elastic fibres (stretch and recoil to maintain blood pressure) and lots of smooth muscle (constrict to reduce blood pressure)
tunica externa- collagen (strength)

small lumen to decrease blood pressure
