neuronal communication Flashcards

1
Q

Q

saltatory conduction

A

large local currents are set up between nodes of ranvier allowing action potential to jump from node to node

Q

how inhibitory neurotransmitters work

A

inhibitory neurotransmitter prevents the generation of an action potential in the post-synaptic neurone due to the hyperpolarisation of the membrane. This means that the membrane potential becomes more negative, which is the opposite of what happens during depolarisation.
