What are the 2 causes of dyspepsia

A

Duodenal ulcers => relieved by food

Peptic ulcers => not relieved

What problems / complications can arise from peptic ulcers?

A

Peptic ulcer disease => can become cancerous / malignant

What do we need to screen for in dyspepsia (RED FLAGS)

A

ALARMS + >55

Anaemia (are you short of breath?)
Loss of weight (unintetional weight loss)
Anorexia (lost your apetite?)
Recent or chronic?
Malaena (blood in stools)
Swallowing difficulties

A

Urgent Endoscopy

1st Line management of dyspepsia

A

PPI + lifestyle changes

=> Reduction in NSAIDS / EAting healthy / Smoking alcohol reduction

No improvement after 1st line management

A

Breathe Test to test for a bacteria that can be causing ulcerations

(+) => PPI + Amoxicillin + Clarithyromycin
(-) => PPI change

A

=> Endoscopy
