A
  1. Check patient matches appliance
  2. Check appliance matches prescription
  3. Check for sharp edges
  4. Check integrity of wire work
  5. Put in & check for blanching/trauma
  6. Check posterior retention
  7. Check anterior retention
  8. Activate appliance
  9. Demonstrate putting in & out… get patient to practise
  10. Book review appt 4-6 weeks

What are the 10 patient instructions to give when prescribing URA?

A
  1. Initially feel big & bulky
  2. Mild discomfort (indicates working)
  3. Impinge on speech (practise reading aloud)
  4. Excessive salivation (24hrs)
  5. Wear 24/7 (including mealtimes)
  6. Clean after every meal
  7. Non-compliance increases treatment time
  8. Avoid hard & sticky foods
  9. Remove & store for contact/active sports
  10. Give emergency contact number
