Q

Sampling daisies with quadrats

A

1) Use a random number generator to generate 10 random coordinates in a field
2) Count how many dasies are in each quadrat
3) Calculate the mean average of the amount of daisies in each quadrat (add the amount of dasies, divide by 10)
4) Multiply the mean average by the number of quadrats that can fit in the field (eg. If quadrat is 1m^2 and field is 50m^2, multiply by 50) to estimate population size

Q

Sampling width of leaves as we get further from the forest with transects

A

1) Lay the transects along the floor of the habitat (from the outskirts of the forest to the dense, inner forest)
2) At regular intervals (eg. 1m intervals) place a quadrat down and measure the width of three leaves using a ruler
3) Take an average for that location
3) Repeat along the transect at regular intervals (eg. 1m intervals)
4) Map distribution and repeat in another location and see if there is a relationship between width and distance from forest
