What is Migration?
It is when a person moves from one place to another. Migration can occur within a country or between countries.
What is a migrant?
A migrant is someone who moves from one place to another, with the intention of living permanently or temporarily in a new location.
What is an immigrant?
An immigrant is someone who moves to live permanently in a different country.
What is a forced immigrant ?
Some have no choice in moving. These are called forced migrants/ refugees.
What is a population pyramid ?
Population pyramids show a cross
section of a population at a
particular moment.
What information can we get from a population
pyramid?
If one cohort is smaller than
the one below it, this could
be explained by:
A decline in birth rate
An increase in death rate
Migration
Any combination of these
What is a youthful population?
The youth are defined as those aged 15 or below in the population .
If a country has a high % of the population under the age of 15 they
are classed as having a youthful population.
What is ageing population ?
An ageing population is when there is a lower fertility rate and incresed life expectancy for people aged over 60 in a country.
What is urbanisation ?
People moving from rural countryside to the city.
What are the push factors of urbanisation?
- lack of healthcare
- lack of education
- poverty
- natural disasters
- isolation-socialisation
What are the pull factors of urbanisation ?
-safer
-better education
-better healthcare
-better jobs
-better job pay
