Schema’s

A

Knowledge representations of the self, others and the world.

  • implicit beliefs: verbalised, conscious
  • explicit beliefs; unaware, non-verbal (eg attachment style)

Originates in childhood; Early maladaptive schemas; foundation is formed with the limited view of how you see the world as a child. This can become maladaptive when you get older

Beliefs

A

Core beliefs; Beliefs that come w schemas. core of your being
- I am… Others are… The world is…
- Eg. I’m unwanted and unskilled

Conditional beliefs: consequence of your core beliefs:
- If x, than y
- Eg. If others’d know me they’d see me as inferior

Strategic beliefs: Based on link between cause and consequence of conditional.
- do A to get B
- Hide and avoid to make sure that doesn’t happen (symptoms DSM)

A

Assimilation; inclusion in already existing schema, sometimes info is adjusted so it fits *the dominant process

Accommodation: Adjustment of schema according to new information (what you want in PD, but difficult)
