The ego

A

Executive agent of the mind.
- Important for self-regulation and adaptation
- Mediating conflict and forging compromise
- Forms the mental representation of the self and object

  • Functions mostly outside of awareness
  • Capable of internalisation, identification of the self-image that results from that and forming ego identity (stable sense of self)
