Principles of ergonomics?

A
  1. Work in neutral postures
  2. Reduce excessive force
  3. Keep everything within reach
  4. Work at proper height
  5. Reduce excessive motions
  6. Minimize fatigue and static load
  7. Minimise pressure points
  8. Provide clearance (clear the area) 9. Move, exercise and stretch
  9. Maintain a comfortable environment (e.g. lightening, cool air etc.)

Risk factors for work-related musculoskeletal disorders?

A
  1. Compression, vibration, forceful exertions (lifting, pushing, pinching,
    gripping)
  2. cold temperatures (<68 degrees cause nerve damage)
  3. static postures
  4. awkward postures (non-neutral)

  6. inadequate recovery

  1. Back injuries
    - Facet joint pain; disc erosion, Sciatic nerve impingement (sciatica), Herniated discs
  2. Musculoskeletal injuries
    - Low back pain, strain, sprain
  3. Tendon disorders
    - Rotator Cuff syndrome, DeQuervain’s disease, tendinitis {Lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow); Medial epicondylitis (Golfers elbow)}, tenosynovitis (Trigger finger), ganglion cysts
