Q

5 Levels of Leadership

A
  1. Position (rights)
    - assert ur rights being in a position of power, shallow relationship with subordinates who only follow because they have to and not bc they want to; difficult to ask for their compliance if beyond the scope of their job
  2. Permission (relationships)
    - already established good relationship with subordinates who follow you because they want to; kumbaga voluntary ang pag submit nila sau out of value sa relationship niyo
  3. Production (results)
    - subordinates follow bc of what you have done for the org; kunwari may direct impact yung actions and achievements mo sa work nyo, kaya naaffect sila in a good way and that becomes their motivation to follow u; parang u give them security ba
  4. People development (reproduction)
    - subordinates follow bc of what u have done for them; u created an impact in their lives kaya they want to follow ur footsteps
  5. Personhood (respect)
    - subordinates follow simply bc of who u are and what u represent; out of seniority, you have established yourself as a worthy leader; what u say is expert opinion and always right; who u are is smth that can be emulated

Q

What are the 2 types of leaders?

A
  • Formal leaders: position earned by virtue of qualifications and elections; bale they were put / appointed into power kaya they have the authority to lead and act
  • Informal leaders: wala silang official sanction / appointment; parang out of sunbae vibes lang sila nasusunod kasi of the experience Nila; Tsaka more on nagsserve or lead sila out of their own initiative to help others, di naman sila elected, out of their own goodwill lang

Q

What are the 4 leadership styles?

Note: we can combine these styles, but leaders usually have a predominant one

A

[ADLB]

  1. Authoritarian or Autocratic
    - whatever they say, goes without consulting others; useful in crisis situations e.g. code blue; involves coercion and exploitation of rights
  2. Democratic
    - consults everybody; under this: participative - lahat gid nagcontribute sa decision, daw collective sya, consultative - may representative lang o kaya sample size; di buong grp nagadecide, kundi ung chosen lang; majority is 50%+1, consensus bldg is lahat talaga agree sa decision
  3. Laissez-Faire
    - loose and permissive; ultra liberal and no structure; low productivity and employee frustration kasi di sila namamanage or na bibigyan ng assurance, assume lang sila; tho useful to sa mga seasoned and self directed professionals, kasi kaya Nila mag set ng sarili ng targets and imake sure na ma carry out sya
  4. Bureaucratic
    - nagaabide lang sila sa rules and policies; ultra structured siya to the point na di natitignan ung entire picture; basta may ginagawa ka na labas sa policies, sanction ka na; very impersonal siya pero less likely to go wrong bc of its logical and organized nature

Q

What are the 3 leadership behaviors?

A
  1. Passive
    - agri lang always, di sila nagsstand up for themselves, submissive lang and accept lang ng accept, wallow in self pity lang sila
  2. Aggressive
    - disrespectful, mahilig magpoint ng fingers, insensitive sila and parang binibelittle yung iba and gumagawa ng depreciating comments #classist ?!?
  3. Assertive
    - agri to disagree; they hear the side of others, but assert their own, marunong rumespeto, and value Nila input ng iba, di sila nagiimpose ng opinion Nila and marunong magstaandup for themselves w/o stepping on others #greenflag
