A

The westernmost sub-zone of Valtellina.

(It is the newest of the 5)

A

The best sub-zone of Valtellina.

It lies just west of the town of
Sondrio on the Adda River.

A

A sub-zone of Valtellina.

Lies just east of the town of
Sondrio on the Adda River.

It produces the lightest bodied wines
of all the 5 sub-zones.

The hottest sub-zone of Valtellina.

Lies just east of Grumello on the Adda River.

It encompasses the vineyards from just east of

A

The easternmost sub-zone of Valtellina.

It is the largest producing of the 5.

It is the only sub-zone
with plantings south of the Adda River

What is Stagafassli?

A

A labeling term that is applied to Valtellina Superiore if the wine is bottled in Switzerland as opposed to Italy.

Bottled is an important distinction here. The grapes must still be grown in Valtellina, but they can be processed and bottled in Switzerland.
