Q

What is the two types of crust on earth?

A

Oceanic Crust - Crust found under oceans
(More Dense and thinner - Basaltic)

Q

What is the Rigid Mantle?

Q

What is the Plastic Mantle (Asthenosphere)?

A
  1. Magma can easily flow in this layer
  2. Magma is partially melted because it is JUST above the melting point
  3. Contains Convection Currents

Q

What is the Stiffer Mantle?

A
  1. Largest Layer in Earth
  2. Magma is harder and doesn’t flow as much/easily (Molasses, high viscosity)

Q

Why must scientists rely on indirect methods to study the Earth’s interior?

A

We aren’t able to dig down that far through the crust
(As soon as you dig, you will create a mini volcano because magma will squirt out)

Time Zones

Midnight is in the middle of the darkness, Noon is in the middle of the light. 6pm goes into the darkness and 6am goes into the light.

A
  1. 24 Time Zones
  2. 15 degrees apart
  3. One hour apart
