Q

How is immunofluorescence used diagnostically?

A

Detects antigens or antibodies, by having fluorescent molecules that will bind if they are present

Q

How are antibodies used to determine how recently an infection began?

A

IgM and IgG can be used, as IgM is the first antibody and peaks earlier, while IgG is present in the later stages of infection

Q

How are ELISA tests conducted?

A

An enzyme-conjugated antibody is added to a sample and will bind to the relevant antigen/antibody if present. A substrate is added to change the colour so that concentrations can be ascertained via spectrometry
