What is Sociological perspective?
A way to view society
What is consensus theory?
Believe that people in society share the same norms, values etc. which work well for all.
What are consensus perspectives?
Views that just reflect those in power.
What is functionalism?
They Study institutions because their influence will create predictable behaviour. They’re not interested in individuals because they have no choice as they’re influenced by agencies of socialisations.
Is functionalism a structural theory?
Yes.
Why don’t structural theories care if someone rebels?
Because the majority are influenced.
What is an Anomie?
Uncertainty, confusion or tension in society. Functionalists believe education helps.
What is Parson’s organic analogy?
The belief that society is like a body because all social institutions need to work together in order for society to function.
What does Parson’s organic analogy believe will happen if a social institution is removed?
It’s like a body with vital parts so if one is removed it would cause the collapse of society.
Does parson’s organic analogy believe in everything being connected and a value consensus?
Yes.
Does Parson’s organic analogy believe that everything should be ordered or not?
Believes in order.
What are functional prerequisites?
Basic needs or requirements that must be met if society is to survive.
Is functionalism a positive or negative theory?
A positive theory.
What does functionalism think is the most important influence?
Society (family, education, media etc.)
What is a value consensus?
The belief that people should work together to achieve shared goals.
