mixed action sympathomimetics Flashcards
what are the mixed action sympathomimetics drugs?
ephedrine
mephentermine
what do mixed action sympathomimetics do?
mimic epi/norepi and stimulate adrenergic receptor directly and prevent degradation of the neurotransmitters
this is why they’re called mixed action
what is the mechanism of ephedrine?
adrenergic alpha and beta receptors agonist and inhibiting reuptake. increasing release of norepi from vesicles in nerve cells
this will increase HR, BP and bronchodilation
clinical indication of ephedrine?
tx of hypotension under anesthesia
allergic conditions like bronchial asthma
mechanism of mephentermine?
alpha adrenergic agonist
acts indirectly by releasing endo norepi
increase cardiac output and systolic and diastolic pressures
clinical indication for mephentermine?
maintain BP in hypotensive states
