when the outbreak of ww1 started millions of men volunteered to join the army leaving many jobs that they had occupied before to be left without any men to do it.

Women took up
work in many jobs such as conductors in trains and trams and working in government buildings, 20000 women worked for the government.

Elise Ingles set up the women’s foreign service in 1914 and she even took out a team of doctors and nurses to Serbia who were not only experiencing a war but also a typhus outbreak.

A

Through their war work they proved they were capable, responsible and independent- many had been the head of their households for the duration of the war

women getting involved in the war was a huge turning point as they gained respect for their efforts which changed the perception that women were not capable enough to vote

A

s the majority of women who worked and were under the age of 30 and were working class did not receive the vote, so many women would end up being disappointed after all of that waiting.

It shows that the war did not fully change how women were viewed in society due to the nature of those who were allowed to vote.
