- what does the LH hormone do?
~stimulates the follicle to release of the egg from the ovary in the middle of the menstrual cycle
~causes the follicle to develop into a corpus luteum
- what hormones does the corpus luteum secrete?
~oestrogen
~progesterone
- what happens with the hormones secreted from the corpus luteum?
~the oestrogen and progesterone inhibit production of LH and FSH in the pituitary gland
- what happens without the production of FSH and LH?
~the corpus luteum shrivels and starts producing less and less oestrogen and progesterone
~cycle starts again
what hormone does the contraceptive pill usually have and why?
progesterone, maintains the lining of the uterus and prevents an egg maturing and being released from the follicle
how can infertility be treated?

what and when is clomifene therapy used?
~a drug that increases the concentration levels of FSH and LH in the blood
~used for women who do not release eggs during their menstrual cycle
what does IVF do and stand for?
~overcomes problems like blocked oviducts in women and the produce of very few sperm in men

stages of IVF?

~healthy embryos not used the first time can be stored and frozen to be used a later stage
