14
Q

what did tenari find

A

looked at adoption studies- found that 10.3% of adopted children who had schizophrenic mother developed schizophrenia in adult hood compared to 1.1% of adopted children who did not have a schizophrenic mother.
t/f this increases the validity that gentic factors heavily influence schizophrenia

15
Q

why can you critise both gottesman and tienari.

A

because their statistics do not show a 100%
gottesman only found a 48% concordance rate meaning that over half did of mz twins did not develope schizophrenia
tienari found only 10.3% which is a much smaller amount compared to around 90% who didn’t have a scizophrenic mother and still developed schizophrenia

16
Q

what are some more negative point of the genetic explanation of schizophrenia

A

reductionist
mz twins tend to be treated more simarly copared to dz twins

17
Q

explain why the genetic explination is reductionist

A

doesn’t account for nurture and social factors such as enviromental impacts on the role of schizophrenia so isn’t a holistic appproach to explaining schizophrenia.
t/f development of schiz on mz and dz twins is reductionist as it doesn’t account for nurture only nature.

18
Q

explain your other opposing point

A

mz twins are more likely to be treated and dressed the same due to their similar looks compare to dz twins
t/f it is hard to seperate the effects of genes and nature from the effects of nurture in the development of schiz as mz twins may ahre a more similar enviroment compared to dz twins.
