Media is constructed in a tripart format - an Equilibrium, a disruption to the equilibrium and a new equilibrium.

Russian theorist Vladimir Propp.
Propp said that there are certain character types shown in most pieces of media. These include: The Hero, The Villain, The princess (and her father), The donor, The helper, The dispatcher and the False hero.
