What does the stomach do?
It breaks down the food with enzymes
What does the large intestine do?
It squeezes out any last nutrients before it goes to the anus
What does the small intestine do?
Squeezes out nutrients into the bloodstream
What does the anus do?
It releases feeces
What helps digest your food in the stomach?
Acids and enzymes
What does the liver do
Produces bile and acids to break down food, breaks down posinous substances such as alcohol and drugs
What does the pancreas do
Produces enzymes to digest food
What is the enzyme in saliva called and what does it break down.
Anmylase, carbohydates
What is the enzyme in the stomach called and what does it break down
Protease, protein
What does hydrochloric acid kill
Bad bacteria
What are the 2 types of digestion?
Mechanical and chemical digestion
What does the liver produce?
Bile
What is the function of the oesophagus?
It carries down food from the mouth to the stomach where food is digested
Y do we need to eat food?
Food gives us energy, protein, vitamins and minerals and we need that for our body to function
Where does mechanical digestion take place
In the mouth (the teeth)
