ch 15 Flashcards
Aneuploidy
has missing or one or more chromosomes having one or more extra chromosomes.
Nondisjunction
: chromosomes fail to properly separate during meiosis and can happen in meiosis 1 with homologous chromosomes or meiosis 2 with sister chromatids(can produce viable offspring- diploids). Rarely in mitosis.
Polyploidy
having three or more complete sets of chromosome
Autoploids
: polyploid that derives all its chromosome sets from the SAME species. There can be tetraploids that can form during prophase when the pairs come together during line up in metaphase.
Alloploids
poly that derives its chromosomes from sets of 2 or more distinct, RELATED species.
why can aneuploids in sex chromosomes survive better than autosomal chromosomes?
-x-inactivation; there are people with less or more sex chromosomes and PAR regions remain active.
