Ocular disease that involves optic nerve cupping, visual field loss and elevated IPOs

What is the cause of Open angle/chronic glaucoma?
Gradual blockage of the drainage channels
What is a symptoms of open angle/chronic glaucoma? (2)
normally asymptomatic
gradual loss of side vision
Does open angle/chronic glaucoma progress slowly or quickly?
slowly
known as ‘theif in the night’
What is the cause of Secondary glaucoma?
Injury, Infection, tumors, drugs or inflammation that cause scar tissue growth blocking the drainage channel
What is a symptoms of secondary glaucoma?
gradual loss of side vision
Does secondary glaucoma progress slowly or quickly
slowly
What are the cause of angle closure glaucoma?
Total blockage of drainage channel - sudden increase in pressure
What are the symptoms of angle-closure glaucoma? (5)
Tunnel vision
Nausea
blurred vision
severe pain
halos around lights
Is angle closure glaucoma an emergency and why?
Yes because it can cause permanent blindness quickly if no treatment
What is the cause of congenital glaucoma?
Fluid drainage system abnormal at birth
What are the symptoms of congential glaucoma? (4)
Light sensitivity
Excessive tearing
enlarged eyes
cloudy cornea
does it have to be treated quickly after birth for vision to be saved?
yes
What is the most common glaucoma type?
Primary open-angle glaucoma
