What is secondary data?
Information collected someone else for their own purposes but the sociologist can then use.
What is primary data?
Information collected by the sociologist themselves. May be for own purposes, to obtain a first hand picture of a group. Can be costly and time consuming though.
What is Quantitative data?
Data in numerical form
What is Qualitative data?
In depth wordy days which gives a feel into what something is like.
What are practical factors?
Amount of time, cost, funding can be achieved. These are limitations
What are ethics?
Taking into consideration how research impacts those involved.
What are some ethical issues?
Causing harm, deceiving others, researching vulnerable people.
Why is consent important?
Because people should have the right to refuse involvement.
Why is confidentiality important?
Because it helps prevent possible negative effects.
When is parental consent needed in research?
When research takes place in a school as researchers must regard issues of child protection.
