B3.6-7 Specific Enzymes And Bile Flashcards
Where are amylase (carbohydrate) produced ? What do they brake down?
Produced in: salivary glands and pancreas also small intestine
Breaks down: starch so pasta and potatoes
Where are protease produced and what do they break down?
Produced in: stomach and pancreas
Breaks down: proteins such as nuts and meats into amino acids
Where are lipase (fats) produces and what do they brake down?
Produced in: only in pancreas and small intestine
Breaks down: fats into glycerol and fatty acids
If confused what should you remember ?
All enzymes are produced by the pancreas and small intestine so say that if your ever confused
Where is bile produced ? Where is it stored and released?
Produced in the liver
Stored and released in the gall bladder
Describe and explain two functions of bile.
- Neutralises acid from the stomach which prevents stomach acids from denaturing the enzymes
- Emulsifying fats- breaks down fat into smaller droplets giving it a greater surface area for digestive enzymes to work
