Heart values Flashcards
Heart rate (HR)
The number of times the heart beats per minute (BPM)
Resting heart rate (RHR)
The number of times the heart beats per minute at rest (BPM)
Working heart rate (WHR)
The number of times the heart beats per minute during exercise (BPM)
Cardiac output (Q)
The volume of blood pumped out of the ventricles per minute (HR x SV)
Stroke volume (SV)
The volume of blood pumped out of the ventricles per beat
Maximum heart rate (MHR)
The maximum number of times the heart can beat per minute (BPM) (220 - age)
Heart rate reserve (HRR)
The difference between the maximum heart rate and resting heart rate (MHR - RHR)
End diastolic volume (EDV)
The volume of blood in the ventricles at the end of the filling in diastole (before contraction)
End systolic volume (ESV)
The volume of blood in the ventricles at the end of systole (ejection) - (at any point during the cardiac cycle)
Karvonen formula
> Determines target heart rate training zone
Target HR = (MHR - RHR) x % intensity + RHR
