Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
Six levels of organization in the body
Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
Organ systems
Integumentary, skeletal, urinary, endocrine, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, lymphatic
What two things need to happen in metabolism
Anabolism (building up) catabolism (breaking down)
4 basic needs for life
Water, nutrients, narrow range of temperatures, narrow range of atmospheric pressure
Homeostasis
Maintenace of a steady/ normal state (physiological equilibrium)
Homeorhesis
Coordinated control in metabolism of body tissues necessary to support a physiological state
What does the dorsal cavity include
The cranial and spine cavities
What does the ventral cavity include
Thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities
4 abdominal quadrants
RUQ, LUQ, RLQ, LLQ
9 abdominal regions
R and L hypochondriac, epigastric, R and L lumbar, umbilical, R and L iliac, hypogastric
Pleural cavity
Surrounds the lungs
Pericardium
Surrounds the heart
Peritoneum
Surrounds organs in abdominal cavity
Sagittal plane
Divides the left and right side of the body
Frontal plane
Divides the front and back of the body
