A

Come from deciduous or broad-leafed tree
Generally slow-growing - making them harder + more expensive
Not all are hard - Balsa (often used for model planes) is a hardwood

A

Come from coniferous trees with needles instead of leaves
Grow faster (around 30 years) than hardwoods - cheaper and easier to work with
Trees grow tall and straigh - facilitates the production of long, straight planks of wood
