What is a variable?
What you observe or change/change in an experiment.
What do you observe or change in an experiment?
A variable
What is an independent variable?
A variable that gets changed so you can see if/how it affects the dependent variable.
What kind of variable is the one you change in order to see if it causes something to change?
An independent variable.
What is a dependent variable?
The variable that is affected by the independent variable.
What variable is affected by the independent variable?
Dependent variable.
What qualities should a good hypothesis have?
Specific, testable, explanatory, and can be used to make predictions
What needs to be specific, testable, explanatory, and able to be used to make predictions?
A hypothesis.
Why is it important to have only 1 independent variable?
So you know what causes a change.
You know what specifically causes a change in results during an experiment because__
you only have 1 independent variable
What is the importance of a control group?
it sets the basis for all data discovered from the experiment.
What is the difference between the control group and the actual experiment?
The independent variable is changed in the experiment.
What is a control group?
A standard from which you compare experiment results.
What is the standard from which you compare experiment reults?
A control group.
What axis is the independent variable?
The x axis
What variable is on the x axis?
The independent variable.
What axis is the dependent variable on?
The y axis.
What variable is on the y axis?
The dependent variable.
What is standard deviation?
The statistic that increases the spread or range of a data group
What increases the spread/range of a data group?
Standard deviation
wider spread =
larger standard deviation
overlap =
no significant difference
some overlap =
some difference
no overlap=
significant difference
