What is the order of the Central Dogma?
DNA–> Transcription–>RNA–> Translation–> Protein
Transcription
DNA–>RNA
What are the parts of transcription?
Template strand
Coding strand
RNA Polymerase
Transcribed DNA strand=
template strand

Transcribed DNA strand
Untranscribed DNA strand=
coding strand
Coding Strand=
Untranscribed DNA strand
Main enzyme=
RNA polymerase
Coding strand almost the same as
mRNA except it has T and not U
What are the steps of translation?
Stage 1: Initiation
Stage 2: Elongation
Stage 3: Termination
What happens in initiation?
Transcription factors bind to the promoter and enhancer
RNA polymerase starts copying the sequence into mRNA
What happens in elongation?
RNA breaks free of Transcription Factors
Protective 5’ cap is added to RNA
While the RNA polymerase copies DNA, proteins begin to splice and cut out the introns
What happens in termination
At the polydenylation site, the termination sequence is recognized and cut
A poly A tail is added to the end of the RNA molecule and the longer it is the longer it will go w/o being cut up
