December was significant because many people made homeless by the earthquake were dying of hypothermia.

-Cold winter temperatures caused the now homeless people to die from hypothermia.
-Water and electricity supplies were cut by the earthquake which resulted in poor sanitation, causing disease to spread.
-Many residents were left permanently disabled.
How does Bam being a LIC make the response worse?
The government had less healthcare workers and worse technology which caused the response to be slower resulting in more deaths.
Why cant Iran prepare for earthquakes?
Iran hasn’t got enough money to pay for earthquake proof buildings because they use expensive materials and take years to build. They also cant afford to educate people on what to do during an earthquake compared to countries like japan where earthquake drills are common and the government has a plan.
