2.4 the nucleus Flashcards
1
Q
What is a transcription factor?
A
A protein that targets a specific gene regulatory sequence that is important in the control of transcription.
2
Q
Which transcription factor, important in prostate cancers, moves into the nucleus to activate gene expression?
A
The androgen receptor (AR).
3
Q
Nuclear pore complexes
A
Large multiprotein structures that span the nuclear membrane and regulate entry and exit of materials into and from the nuclear compartment.
4
Q
Excitable cells
A
Cells in which stimulation leads to depolarisation of the membrane, causing an action potential. Examples are neurons, myocytes and pancreatic b cells.
