-tendon sheath

Tendon sheath
a synovial structure that surrounds a tendon (like a sleeve) that has a synovial membrane that produces synovial fluid for lubrication
Do all tendons have a tendon sheath?
no
What is the tendon sheath anchored to?
it is anchored in place to the bone
In regards to the tendon sheath, why is exercise important during tendon injury healing?
to prevent the tendon from getting stuck/attached to the tendon sheath (wouldn’t be able to slide anymore)
Synovitis
inflammation of a synovial structure
Tenosynovitis
inflammation of a tendon sheath (produces extra synovial fluid)
Bursae
sac-like structures that contain a synovial membrane and synovial fluid
-often located between two structures
Navicular bursa
between navicular bone and deep digital flexor tendon
Bursitis
inflammation of the bursa
Examples of bursitis:
-capped hock
-capped elbow (shoe boil)
Joints:
-shoulder joint
-elbow joint
-knee joint
-fetlock joint
-pastern joint
-coffin joint
-hip joint
-stifle joint
-hock joint
