What is the Ordinary Magesterium?

A

Popes and Bishops usually preach and write letters to people in their diocese ( Laity).
These are aimed at encouraging faith, clarify a point of faith, or give instructions.
It is important that the Catholic Church can respond to issues that were not considered by the writers of the Bible.

A

Sometimes the Church needs to respond to certain issues which have more importance than the ordinary teaching so they are called the extraordinary Magesterium.

What is the Extraordinary Magisterium Conciliar?

A

Sometimes the bishops are asked to sit in a general council which is an extraordinary form of the Magesterium.
The task of the General council is to explore big issues in the life of the Church.

A

When the pope makes his own declarations but this is very rare as he would usually consult with the bishops first.
The pope has the authority to make a final decision on an issue.
